History

Anuradhapura has an important place in Sri Lankan history. Horowpothana is situated in north East Boundry of the district in this division. Sinhalese and Muslims are living unitedly. 

A/Badiuddin Mahmud Maha Vidyalaya  is a developing school which is contesting with A/Ruwanweli Central College. Now, this school becomes as a Muslim Education Centre. 

This school activated as a unit of Horowpothana Ruwanweli Central College. After that , it was laid stone for a separate school on 21^st  of June 1976. It was activated as Tamil Unit in a 60*20 building.

Many important persons contributed to become this school as a separate school. According to Hon.TP. Herath and the effort of the Former Ministry of Education Dr. Badiuddin mahmud, it was started. 

Those who were back bone to start this school, Former Principals of A/Ruwanweli Central College Mr. FT. Perera, Ananda Sagara, Mr. AM.Rathnayaka ,Mr. Marhoom MC Abdul Careem (Principal),Mr.NM. Yaseem (Teacher), Mr. Ahmed Thaha,Mr. Mohammed Ismail, Mr. Mohammadu Haneefa and others. 

This school was opened as a Horowpothana Muslim Vidyalaya on 28^th of February 1977 by the effort of important persons of this village and the villagers. The primary unit was separated under the thousand school Scheme in 2013. Now, this school is activated from grade 6-13.

12 Principals served so far in this school. Current Principal of this school is R.ISHAK. Others are Mr. MC.Abdul Kareem, Mr. OA.Raheem, Mr. AM.Haneefa and Mr. SA.Saththar .This school was developed in the Era of principals of this area step by step. This school is developing continuously more and more now.
